In 1970, Robert Bourassa understood that the party’s future lay with young people, and he made the QLP Youth Commission (QLPYC) one of the largest in Canada.
When I was vice-president of the YC, I saw first-hand the impact we could have. We helped shape ideas that left their mark on Quebec, such as the Allaire Report. The YC energized the party with their enthusiasm and innovative ideas. We weren’t afraid to shake things up. I’m making two important commitments today:
If you place your trust in me as leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, I pledge to strengthen our Youth Commission with two clear, concrete measures:
A strong, organized YC requires dedicated resources. I propose to increase budgets to enable the YC executive to hire one full-time or several part-time resources, as needed. With a solid permanent staff, the YC will be better able to structure their activities, recruit new members and spread their ideas throughout Quebec.
For the YC to play their part, they must have a direct voice within the party. I pledge to meet with the YC executive once a month for as long as I’m leader. These meetings will be an opportunity to discuss, listen and work together in a spirit of mutual respect.
A strong QLPYC for a renewed party
The Youth Commission has always been in the DNA of the Quebec Liberal Party.
I firmly believe that the revival of our party depends on a strong, bold and well-equipped YC. If I’m elected leader, I’ll always be a staunch ally of our youth, because a party that relies on the next generation is a party that’s building for the future.
